Math Mats
By Helen

Clip to ScrapBook
There are resource books out there with blacklines for math mats. There are also place value charts that you use this way, with poker chips or buttons etc for chip trading.
The best hint I can give you is not just a printed and laminated mat although those are pretty and great to use, but plain felt rectangles work great on desktops..they don't slip easily and neither do manipulatives slip off of them. Also chips, buttons etc. do not make as much noise in the classroom as they are being used. the mats can store flat or roll up in a corner for storage. Not too expensive esp. if you purchase by the yard and cut them up. I have about 24 rectangles that I have used for 8-10 years.
