Hi, Becky
I have been in the same place that you are in now. I taught 3rd grade and then I moved up to 4th with them. I had the same probelm -I thought they would become bored but they did not. I had a great year with
the kids. They knew what to expect and they knew what i expected from them. I had a wonderful parent teacher relationship. I could not move up with these kids to 5th because I have become friend with many of the parents. Looping is not so bad. In Reading, there are alot of activities you can use to re-inforce skills. One that I use is reading beach ball. I have a beach ball divided into
several sections with questions such as:who are the main characters, what is the setting, and so forth. The kids get in a circle and you throw the ball to one kid and where ever their left thimb lands that is the question they have to answer. After they answer the question correctly they will throw the ball to a classmate. You can make up any questions and your own rules for the game. I have a beach ball for math also for reviewing basic facts. The kids really love these and they do not get bored playing them over and over. Please feel free to e-mail if you want some more ideas for Reading.
