safety patrol activities
By Rebecca

Clip to ScrapBook
Our school has safety patrols as well. They are fourth and fifth graders whom have been recommended by teachers to be trustworthy and responsible. Role play is a great way to practice rules. We had an unfortunate situation
last year with an irate parent trying to come in the teacher door instead of checking in through the office. The little girl on s. patrol knew just what to do and didn't let him in and just instructed him to go to the office. When he became irate, she knew to close the door quickly.
You could have scenarios on cards and let the kids get into partners or groups and act out what
they would do in that situation. It is important not only to just tell them how to react, but let them learn by "doing" it through role play. This helps them to know how to react in different stiuations whether they may be minor or something as serious as I previously described.
