Clip to ScrapBook
I find teaching with tradebooks very worthwhile and authentic. I agree with the suggestions of the other replies. I have found that if the books are at the correct level, high interest enough and/or connected to your other
studies they will work really well. Most skills can be taught to some degree using any book. For example, skim for information, cause and effect, main idea, compare and contrast information, vocabulary, parts of speech, etc. We discuss writing skills as well: good leads, transitions, descriptive language, etc. I've found a great product called "Highlighting tape". It is very thin plastic
on a roll colored bright colors. It is used to highlight words in a book and it peels right off. The kids love it to use in literature books to highlight key words, difficult words, etc then come to group to talk about it. It is reuseable.
