Jobs
By KimW

Clip to ScrapBook
I would give teenagers jobs more than any other age. Preteens especially. These kids need to feel wanted and needed, by everyone. Giving them jobs is just one way to do that. In an intermediate classroom you can let the
students do a great deal of the work. My school uses 6th graders as office helpers, bookstore workers, flag raisers, library helpers, and much more. In the classroom students can clean the room, have some in charge of computers (seeing them off and neat), some students can prepare materials for an upcoming lesson. Hall moniters isn't too immature but rarely will a child "Rat Out" another.

My point is that it is very important for 5th & 6th graders to have jobs but they need to be real important jobs. Things that matter. Things they can see are needed everyday. They have to feel like their job is important to you and the class.
