Mentoring

In North Carolina, each new teacher is assigned a mentor for 3 years. My mentor was fantastic. I was lucky enough to be in the room (trailer) next to hers. We shared a TA. That helped so much. I know of some teachers whose mentor was in a different school. The best thing she did for me was not to push me. She was there to answer any questions I had about anything..school related or not. Once I got to the point where I knew what the curriculum was and needed ideas to supplement what I already had, she opened her room and teaching materials to me. This will be our fourth year working together. The best advice I can give to mentors is just to be there and listen. Wendy
