Clip to ScrapBook
You are wise to begin planning now. I see a few things that have red flags. Planning 4 to 5 stories a week seems like a lot. Our school has basals and we do one story a week in grades 1-5. We have our spelling and writing
activities stem from the series. Our series also has supplemental books that can be used if needed during the week. Check your teacher's guide for pacing the program. I would check with another teacher in your school that has used the series to see how to pace it. Don't get hung up on finishing the series.
Projects are good. Begin slowly with daily activities. Once they (and
you) get the hang of the routine then go for the weekly projects. After you know what they can handle then monthly projects can be given with lots of help on your part. This will be new to them since they are so young. Kids working on a month long project need to be given it in small chunks.
All in all, start slowly so you can get a grip on your class.
