Math, A Way Of Thinking By Georgia Teacher
|
|
Even though I was teaching kindergarten at the time, my school sent me to a "Way of Thinking Workshop." They could have saved the money. I did eventually teach third grade where I was able to try out some of the ideas,| but I could never fully implement the program the way I wanted, because it is so time consuming. Math Their Way is wonderful, but I've never attended a workshop...it's SOOO expensive. I do have the Math Their Way book, and a Box It Bag it book, and I just pull ideas from both, but I've never gone "the distance" with either, because of the time involved with each program (it conflicts with | | the time alloted for all those other pesky subjects and programs we're supposed to implement each day !). I'd suggest you start by making all the games from Workjobs I and II and gathering your "collections". After trying a FEW of the activities from the book, decide if you would to be able to use it with your school's particular population (some of the little boys I taught were slower to grasp certain very important concepts using MTW strategies, while my girls seemed to flourish doing the activities), then if you think the program is for you, approach your curriculum supervisor about attending a workshop. Best of luck to ya!
