WOW!!! By Maggie

When I first wrote to elicit opinions, I never dreamed I would stir so many responses. I am confused as ever. Like Abby's post, I read the first book to my students the last three years and it was like magic. I had students| reading that weren't reading before. All the students each year didn't want me to put the book down. I never had a parent in the past say they objected to me reading the book. I am one of those teachers who just wants to get her students excited about reading and learning. Don't we all? The themes I start off with are meant to get the students revved up about coming to school. | | I also agree with the posting about this being a fantasy story. Sleeping Beauty had fairies and witches. Again, sometimes teachers, like myself, get carried away with enthusiasm, and then realize some feelings may be hurt. I am the same teacher who has a third grade overnight that many people thought would be questionable. Parents and students at our school love it though. I will also take the advice of many of you and talk to my principal. By the way, I would never force the theme on any of my students. The beginning of the year theme at my school usually lasts for the first month and then it is gone. I can't thank all of you enough for your responses. I respect all of your opinions. It has given me even more to think about and I'll keep you posted on what happens!
