geometry in ss

Clip to ScrapBook
We have pressure to teach math, math, math, in our district. One activity we did recently, because we were studying the American Revolution, was to come up with a flag for a brand new country. They were to design it with geometric shapes and other figures, such as angles, etc. They also were to come up with laws for the new country and the name of the new country. This worked out really well for us, and the kids enjoyed it. It also gave them the perspective on what it's like to set up a new country as we did back in the American Revolution days. Hey, they could even come up with monetary units and decide on the name of a new bill and coins. That would also work its way into math.
