Eastern Woodland Indians
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
Although I teach fifth grade, I have also taught second grade. You could have them complete a project where they build the homes of these Indians. You could get small pieces of bark from trees and have the kids glue them
together to make the homes. Pretzels also make good Indian home building materials.

Another thing I did was use Indian pictographs. The kids love doing this. Get some Indian pictographs and have the kids write a story with them. For example: The boy walked with the bear.
They could write the symbol for bear where the word bear would appear. They went to the river together.

(Put the symbol in for river.), etc. I hope this helps. Have them share their stories afterwards. You could have them write their stories on brown paper bags for added authenticity.
