SQ3R
By Sara

Clip to ScrapBook
Have you ever tried SQ3R? This stands for Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review. It sounds a bit like what you are doing right now.

The kids begin by surveying the pictures, captions, graphs, etc. of the selection they are about to read.

They look at the bold-faced headings in the selection. If the bold-faced heading says something like: Trouble in the Colonies, the students will write some questions about this they would like to have answered as they read: What was the trouble in the colonies?

They read to answer their questions.

They recite what they have learned. The teacher reviews with the students what they have learned.
