teaching 6th graders social studies
By Julie

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach in a self-contained classroom as well. I agree that just reading the book, discussing, and doing worksheets gets old very quickly. Plus, this is the time of day in which you are not feeling very creative. Have you tried:

1. Roleplaying?

2. Debates?

3. Discussion groups?

4. Creating a play or skit?

5. Creating a newspaper to depict the times?

Let me know if you want more description of any of these. My kids have fun in social studies. Kids this age--I teach sixth grade, too--can do so many creative things.
