vocab ideas
By Rebecca

Clip to ScrapBook
In our S.S. book, it lists the vocabulary at the beginning of the lesson. We go over the words only and I preassess(asking for definitions). This helps me know which words I need to focus more on than others or if they
have no clue about the unit. First, they usually read the lesson silently. Then we come back together as a large group and read the lesson together. We discuss the vocab. as we go. I make a Vocab game by putting vocabulary words on individual cards. Then on another set, I put the definitions. I mix the two stacks together and hand them out in a random order. The students have to go
find their partner (vocab matching definition) without talking to any one. They stand together in pairs and then we go over each to check for correctness. This is a fun activity for vocab and it gets them out of their chair.
