In our S.S. book, it lists the vocabulary at the beginning of the lesson. We go over the words only and I preassess(asking for definitions). This helps me know which words I need to focus more on than others or if they| have no clue about the unit. First, they usually read the lesson silently. Then we come back together as a large group and read the lesson together. We discuss the vocab. as we go. I make a Vocab game by putting vocabulary words on individual cards. Then on another set, I put the definitions. I mix the two stacks together and hand them out in a random order. The students have to go | | find their partner (vocab matching definition) without talking to any one. They stand together in pairs and then we go over each to check for correctness. This is a fun activity for vocab and it gets them out of their chair.
