1. Debates. Students could debate, for example, the Revolutionary War. One group could be the British defending their actions, and another could be the Colonials. For the Civil War,
3. Models. You could have them develop models of such things as Indian Villages. 4. Puppet Plays - If your students are a bit artistic, they could create puppets and roleplay historical events you are studying. 5. Dress like a character. You could have a student dress like Abe Lincoln or some other famous person. "Abe" could give the Gettysburg Address to the class. 6. Language Arts tie in. You could have them create poetry about the historical period you are studying. 7. Write a letter. As an example, they could write a letter to persuade Robert E. Lee to stop the Civil War. 8. You could have students play reporter. They could interview a person from the time period you are studying. 9. Newspaper. Students could create what would appear to be an authentic newspaper for the times. Include a title for the newspaper and the date. There are so many exciting things you can do to enrich students' learning of social studies. They don't just have to be smart, but willing to participate.
