Hi Theresa!!I am teaching second grade gifted this year. One of the science topics is "water and liquids." So I am doing a huge project about water. I thought of making it "oceans" but I found that this limited my ability | to integrate all subject areas. Changing it to just "water" helped me a lot. In LA, we're reading "Island of the Blue Dolphins." In math, we are measuring temperatures of water and graphing results. In science,we're learning about the water cycle, how water gets purified for drinking, properties of water etc... In Social, we're visiting a water treatment plant in our area as this | | could be part of the "communities" section of the social curriculum. We are also going to have a debate about water pollution, talking about the ramifications on society, suggestions for preventing it, and inventions to cure it. Public speaking is part of our LA curriculum, and discussion of how to make our community a better place fits into social. In art, we're studying watercolour artists, and learning techniques to paint in watercolour. For P.E. we may do swimming lessons. In health, we're studying nutrition (water is very important!!). Anyways, please excuse the ramblings, but I just wanted to offer a few thoughts. I have found some wonderful resourses on the internet. Good luck!! Any questions, just e-mail me.
