Social Studies Theme

I am a covert social studies teacher in a middle school language arts classroom - one of the best themes I worked with in a previous school was called "Borders." What creates a border? Geography, culture, religion, custom, economics, trade and all its ramifications, and so on. There are a million things one could do with this at any level -- the sky's the limit.
