Dear Kim,
I am not sure how ceertification is done by you. I know that in New York, my friends who left Catholic School to teach in public school were given 2/1. An example if I taught for 12 years in the Diocese the
Board of Ed recognized 6 years experience. What a great opportunity to be part of the new school. Everything is brand new. You won't here how Miss so and so did things last year. Is this school going for Middle States Accredidation?
There are pros and cons to every situation. I teach in Catholic school because my two youngest are still in the system, and I like to be on the same
schedule, days off, vacations. I make a lot less money then my public school friends but I don't have three AP's, team leaders, grade leaders, etc. to answer to either. I choose to teach in the private school, I don't regret it but my husband is the bread and butter winner I am just bring in the jelly and jam. You have to find what would be the most comfortable situation for you. Do you want to try out teaching in private school. Can you afford to, do you have student loans to pay back. I would call personnel in both the private and public schools and see what their requirements are. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
