I think you are exactly right. In my opinion, some people are born teachers. The first day they walk into a classroom they have an intuitive sense of what is needed in any given situation. They deal gracefully with most everything and continue to grow professionally without any apparent effort. (Notice I did say "apparent" effort.) Some people, like me, can learn to be teachers. We lack some of the skills or the temperament that a good teacher needs, we may even struggle mightily at times. But we eventually become competent and sometimes great teachers. And some people, no matter what they do, no matter how they try, should never, Never, NEVER be teachers. And I had a couple of them when I was a student. Didn't we all?
