I was born a teacher
By JulieP

Clip to ScrapBook
Well, I guess my title says it all. I don't remember ever having a defining moment that I said "I want to be a teacher". It just was. I know that sounds kind of corney, but it's true. I have always possesed a teacher personality.
I can remember being in the fourth grade and coming home from school with ALL of my books so that I could "teach" my five year old niece.(She began reading at three because of my insistance that I had to teach her) We would spend hours in my room playing school, and I would teach the lessons to her just as my teacher had done. My reading assignments were always done with me reading
out loud to her.

When other girls insisted on playing Barbie, I would gather my imaginary friends, and hold class.

I am not in the profession right now, but am trying to get back to it. I miss it so much, and am constantly told by my current co-workers that I need to go back, because in everything that I do, I am such a teacher. The personality gets me into trouble sometimes in the corporate world.

As for your age, and the other students being so much younger, would you believe that I had it a little reverse? There were SEVERAL students in some of my classes that were well into their 30's, 40's, 50's. I sometimes had classes where I was the only one in my age group(20's) One of the ladies that graduated with me, had a 4.0 GPA, grad with honors, and was over 60. She thought that what kids needed was a grandmother figure in the classroom, so she retired early from her profession and went back to school.

Good Luck
