Reading Mastery
By L.P.

Clip to ScrapBook
Yes, this is direct instruction. And is it ever scripted. Our principal is very gung ho on it. Our district just received a grant to teach it and purchase materials. The district has a lot of low income and ESL learners
and they think this is the way to go to teach them. Many teachers feel, and I agree, that it doesn't teach comprehension or fluency. I don't have a choice about teaching it however. Ugh! At least with an all day kindergarten, I have time to use other methods as well with my students.
This trainer was just plain rude yesterday. Today, right during the training, my kindergarten
colleague (who's in her twenties) let the trainer know that both of "her" new teachers were overwhelmed and for her to ease up. It was pretty funny. And surprisingly, it brought the trainer right around. She was so-o-o nice to me afterward and asked me later what I would tell my principal about it. I think she was worried.
I agree about these trainings. I have a bad knee that is just killing me after sitting for so long.
