Remind them
By Christy

Clip to ScrapBook
Even though I am a second career teacher most of the teachers at my school are older than me by about an average of 10 years- many of them have children in high school, college, or on their own. When I hear complaints like
that about parents I ask them what they were like when their kids first started school and most of them admit they were like that and have more empathy for the parents. I also remind them that next year I will be one of those parents they are complaining about- my only baby is starting kindergarden next year- my how time flies!

I don't have a lot of parent friends since my daughter is

just starting school. But my biggest problem has been with relatives who have problems with the special education system- "the school should be doing this..How do I make them give this...Can you believe the teacher didn't even....will you come over for the IEP they won't listen to me..." Don't get me wrong most of the gripes are legit but there is very little that I can do other than give names and phone numbers of advocites and lawyers, and try to provide a teacher/school point of view.
