I couldn't agree with you more on the change of perspective. While I haven't officially had my own classroom yet I know that by having children and working in the classrooms I am much more aware of the whole child (ie. problems with peers, family, learning differences) than I think I would have been.
The main lesson that I've learned is that NOTHING is black and white, especially with children.
I have witnessed both kinds of teachers without children- ones that I really worried about and the one's that were perfectly wonderful.
I only hope and pray that I can bring the kind of atmosphere (warm, secure and challenging) into my classroom that I want to as well as make it a great place to learn and grow.
