Talkers
By Yvette Wedel

Clip to ScrapBook
Hey try this....My eighth graders are the same way. Get little reward charts and laminate them. keep a thin dry erase marker on hand for checking off boxes. If you are in an area where there is a Target now would be the time
for purchasing candy. The good stuff is $1.77 a bag for the trial size and try pepsi cola for a donation of drinks. Keep a lock on the cupboard but keep it stocked. Tell students that if in a class period they get the whole chart marked off they can redeem it for a prize at the end of class and leave the cupboard open during class time as an incentive. At first go by and fill up those
with good behavior quickly and as soon as you see one of your talkers quiet down walk over and check their boxes. Use a dry erase to make getting ready for the next day really easy. After you get used to it it gets easier because all it takes is a mark from you. Make a unique mark so that it isn't easily copied but not to time consuming for you. It is a little time consuming at first but well worth the effort to get those talkers to quiet down. It really works believe it or not! Even easier you can use your own charts with the incentive stickers.
