Possible suggestion

I am a first year teacher with a set of challenging fifth graders. I don't know why they put some of them together in the same class, but it shouldn't have happened. Anyway, I haved discussed behavior with my students MANY| MANY times. We have done it in a class meeting/ forum where we all discuss how we feel and what each of us (student and teacher) could do to make it better for everyone. I know your situation is way different, but I would definately approach the class as if they were adults and explain that you are having trouble with their behavior. try to problem solve the situation with them, they will respect you more and learn to appreciate you. Like I said, this is my first time at teaching, but the meeting/forum does seem to work. Good Luck and I hope this helps!
