I am not sure why you cannot modify your curriculum for this student. I have rotating classes and have had several ESL students in my classes. I have a boy right now who can rarely comprehend anything I do in my class. What do I do? One - I have asked the girl that sits next to him to be her helper. She explains things to him and prods him if he is not doing his work. I also have a full time aide who helps him out when he is stuck. I let him use his notes for his tests - I sometimes quiz him orally - I give him copies of my teaching notes. Do you have an ESL program? We have a wonderful ESL teacher who supports me in everything I do with this student and also reviews my material with him.
