Clip to ScrapBook
I give a letter to each child that must be signed by their parents in order for them to check out a book. (I use the card system) If a child loses a book it is $15.00 and parents must agree. I realize that $15.00 is steep for some books, but I tell my parents that I have to order, pay for shipping, or travel myself to purchase the book. If the child loses a book and the bill is not paid at the time of a class activity the child will not participate--never have gotten stuck for the money and almost never lose books. Those parents that do not agree have to take personal responsibility for the books that there child needs for class reading. This is a class library and school library policy. Tough, but it works!!
