UPDATE.. kinda long.. sorry

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the help and the ideas. I also wanted to let everyone know how my first days were going.

I have 3 8th grade classes (about 16 students per class) They are great! I have no complaints
on them at all.
I have 2 7th grade classes (about 23 per class). One of these is also my homeroom. My homeroom was horrid the first day. However, the past few days, they have been great! My other one now, that is a different story. But I will win, one way or the other. It is my class, they will do things my way or out they go. I am doing toom uch for them for them not to respect me.

(ex., I let all my classes go to the bathroom within the first 10 minutes of class, I hold their book and binder for my class only in my class.. in exception when they have h/w or a test to study for) These things made them think. They don't get to go to the bathroom in anyother class. Unless a serious emergency. The b/r is right across the hall from me.. Why not? If you have to go, you have to go.. you know? During the first 10 minutes, they have question of the day to work on, it isn't instructional time. Then concerning the books, they have so much stuff to carry, I felt bad for them. I have 2 empty book cases in my room.. Why not let them use it.. It helps them, and I feel it helped me earn their respect..

I know I will have my 'rough' days.. It happens.. But I feel much better. I enjoy them. I am glad that if I have to have a 'bad' class, that it is last..
