CW By my plan

Hi! I wouldn't spend 5 days teaching procedures. I understand why Wong states that, but I think you can mesh procedures with teaching. You'll have too much curriculum to cover to spend 5 days teaching your rules. My plan the first few days of school are: Of course, it's only a plan for now !P.S. We have 80 minute classes, so keep that in mind with what I'm planning. Day 1: Go over classroom "rules" and expectations. Hand out syllabus and supply list. A short get to know you activity (icebreakers). If I have enough time, I'm going to put the kids in groups and assign them a classroom or school | | rule. Then I'll have them perform a short skit showing a situation in which the rule IS NOT used and a situation in which the rule IS used. Then we'll discuss the importance of each rule. For example, if you teach science, you could assign a group to show what would happen if they DIDN'T follow proper lab procedures and then show what happens when they DO follow lab procedures.Day 2: I teach Reading, so I'm going to do a dictionary review that is also a get to know you activity. I review that parts of a dictionary entry: guide word, part of speech, pronounciation, etc. Then each student makes their own dictionary entry using themselves. Their name is the guide word, they put the proper part of speech for themselves (noun), how their name is pronounced, etc. For the actual definition, they write things about themselves like, height, hair color, age, favorite foods, favorite clothes, movies, music, etc. Then they draw a picture of themselves (just as it would be in the dictionary.) I bind all then entries together and create a class dictionary. It turns out really cute, I get to know the kids in the process, and they review how to use a dictionary for those oh so important vocabulary words! Sorry this is so long, but I know what it's like trying to plan for the first day, and thinking what do I do? If you get stuck, I'd dive into the curriculum.
