Be careful...
By Beth S

Clip to ScrapBook
Trish- 7th & 8th graders still enjoy being read to, even though they might act "too cool" for it at first... so go for it! However, a friendly piece of advice: Since you will be teaching science, you should check with the reading/language arts teachers and make sure you do not select a novel to read aloud that they plan to teach in their curriculum. You don't want to step on any toes. (Trust me!) Some of the novels which have been suggested, like The Outsiders and Where the Red Fern Grows, are often part of the mandated curriculum. A sure way around this may be to choose a book of shorter, more contemporary stories, like Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul (but get the most current one or they will have read them all). Good luck!
