AR Rewards
By Theresa

Clip to ScrapBook
At my school, we hold school-wide AR reward parties. When students at any grade level reach 10, 25, and/or 40 points per six weeks grading period, they sign the appropriate poster in the hall near our AR room. We've also
noticed that the number of children in each point club continues to grow the more we, as faculty, encourage and support AR. And yes, even teachers sign the posters when we reach the point goals. =)
At the end of the six weeks, all the 10 point club members (average number of 60-70) are excused from class to hear a "real live" author speak at our school. (It's a matter of phone calls.
Most of them charge a tiny fee if anything.)
The 25 point club (fewer children) receives a pizza party and the 40 point club (VERY few children) is taken out to lunch by one of our administrators.
The funds for these items are raised through typical fund-raisers such as candy bar sales or nacho sales after school. You would also be amazed at how generous the community would be if you changed AR into a school-wide program of incentives rather than each class doing its own thing. =)
