I agree with Dawn. As middle school teachers we are stuck between a rock and a hard spot. Students are doing everything they can to get away from their "youth". Pop culture is a great way to involve your genre and the
students. What about the Crocodile Hunter? Or create a Road Rules theme with different countries and their natural wonders. (ie; barrier reef, Grand Canyon, Victoria Falls). You could post these pictures around the room and group students in winnebagos to "travel" to each wonder. They must research it and present to the class. What about the Real World? Maybe you could have different
planets with different groups of student on each. They must be responsible for researching their planet and coming up with ways to survive together among new environments. You could post each planet and their groups around the room. It may also be a great way to have the student get to know each other by working together. I don't know I think I am just babbling
