Helping the Sub
By Stacy

Clip to ScrapBook
All you subs out there listen up - this will help you. (First off I'd like to say that I subbed for 3 yrs. before getting a full time position. I was lucky enought to sub for people who always left plans.)

1. Be early-
this will allow you time to look over all of the plans, or make some up if there aren't any for some reason.

2. Greet the students at the door and introduce yourself. Dont let the kids know you are intimidated. Think of them as big pitbulls- stare them down.

3. Let them know what your expectations are befor the day begins

4. Write all directions on the board after verbally presenting.

5.

DONT SIT DOWN AT THE TEACHERS DESK ALL DAY- I have seen too many subs think this is acceptable. Then they wonder why the kids go nuts. Teachers dont sit- they move throughout the room monitoring the classes progress.

6. Keep a record of behavior throughout the day and leave the teacher a detailed note. ( I have had subs that leave me nothing only to hear from kids how horrible so and so was. I let my students know what I expect of them when I am out for any reason. I cant follow through with consequences if I dont know what went on.)
