ME TOO
By Trish

Clip to ScrapBook
Kim,

I am so feeling your anxiety..
I can give you some games and ideas for Language arts. I did that during my student teaching time..
As far as first days.. hmm.. I am confused too..

I do know that my first
day will only be a half day.. I was told that it will go so quickly that I won't even realize that it happened.

These are some of my tips..
Rules: Not sure of anything yet.. Was hoping someone here might post some of theirs..
call roll
I am going to give each student an index card for my own file.. they are going to have to fillout info such as phone #, guardian, address,

etc..
This way I can have this info in my reach, instead of having to bother the office staff for this.

When I issue textbooks, I plan on using a form for them to document any problems in their book on. This I will keep in their file.

www.teachertools.org/forms_dynam.asp
That is the site for the forms and letters.. There are some great ideas here.. Just print them and use them for yourself!
If you have problems with the link, let me know.. I'll email it to you.

I also found this idea, probably on here..
I am going to make a puzzle on cardstock for each class. (pre0cut it) Each student will get their own piece to design. This will then be put together on a bulletin board entitled "We all fit together' If a student leaves during the yr, that piece will be removed, leaving the hole..
If a new one comes, we fit him in..
I think this will show them that even though we have our differnces, we still 'fit' together.. we are a 'family'. I believe that this age especially needs to be reassued that they fit in..

Hope these ideas helped you..

Wish I could help on the rules.. I am at a lost..
I forgot.. I am going to give out a questionaire too.. I think it consists of about 15 questions.. One of them asks the students to list the 5 most important class rules. Then I will use that to help me make my rules.. This will give them some say.. Also, ask your fellow teachers.. they will help.. It is important to be constant with the other teachers.. Students need structure and if you and the other teachers are on the same foot, it'll help!

Trish
