I read the book in advance, and note where all swearing is. Children of that age know the words, at least the ones I work with. If I am reading the book aloud I skip over the word, or say "heck" and remind them that "we don't talk that way" but sometimes authors write that way so readers get a good idea of how the character was brought up or is feeling at that moment. If they are reading the book silently I will warn them that there is language in the book and we don't talk that way. I think I would rather deal with the language that way then not read a valuable book, but that is just my opinion...
