tall tales
By Kath

Clip to ScrapBook
I just finished teaching T.T. in 3rd. Scholastic's Tall Tales Plays were really very fun, and illustrated exaggeration very well. I had my 3rd graders write their own in 2 day assignment. One to write a tale using T.T.
criteria: (1) has exaggerated abilities (theirs), (2)a real person (them), and then I gave them a choice on what their tale was about. When they finished their "sloppy copy" they went with a partner to edit. They had to read the partners story silently and edit, then they had to read their own aloud listening for "editing" purposes, and finally they had to check partners paper specifically
for punctuation, capitalization. Then they rewrote tale w/ very best handwriting, we attached it to very long paper and they decorated the top with "their head" and the bottom with their "feet". The longer their stories, the TALLER Their person and tale were. The kids loved it and they turned out very nice.
