I like to do cereal book ads. Each student covers a cereal box with paper. On the front, they write the title and author and design a cover for the book (or copy from their book). On one side of the box, they put the "ingredients"| of their book(characters, plot, setting, etc). On the other side they put "notable quotables" from the book. Then on the back, they make up a game to teach the reader about the book (crossword, find a word, etc.) Last, they put something (a "prize") in the box--gummy worms for How to Eat Fried Worms, a piece of chocolate for The Chocolate Touch, a spider for Charlotte's Web...you | |
get the picture. My third graders LOVE this. My son did this also when he was in fourth grade. I'm sure fifth graders will enjoy it as well. Our town always has a Christmas Parade so during Dec., their project is to create a float (from a shoebox) to depict their story. We then parade through classrooms (getting approval first) and stopping to spotlight some of the floats in each room--giving students the chance to show off their floats and tell a little about their book.
Dioramas, mobiles, book awards are some other ways to tell about their book. Hope this helps!
