Mouse and the Motorcycle

For the last 15 years, this has always been my first "read aloud" novel for my third graders. It's a great book, isn't it? Anyway, though not all that creative, the kids love watching the movie ,and most of them have not seen it. At the end of the story ,the boy in the book, Keith, has to write an essay when he returns to school. So I have the students pretend to be Keith and they write the essay "What I did On my summer Vacation", from his point of view. They do a really nice job with this.
