Motivate them
By Jennifer

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi. I always use some type of cooperative group motivatign activity to introduce the novels we read. For instance, Hatchet is about survival in the woods. I had them brainstorm items they would need on a camping trip. Then I told them they were Stranded..What were the five most important items... they had to rank them in order of importance.
For the Westing Game, I had them play clue and take notes on the strategies they used to "solve" the mysteries. We discussed the elements of mystery and they were hooked.
Try soemthing different and fun and your kids will be hooked!--------Jen
