My third graders loved " The Mouse and the Motorcycle " by Beverly Cleary. It's a great read aloud because the reading level is 5.8 , even though the interest level is ages 7-11. It's very funny and inspires them to read the other 2 books in the series , "Ralph S. Mouse " and " Runaway Ralph ".The reading level is a little lower on these. When we finish the first book , we watch the movie and they write reports pretending to be the boy in the story who befriends the mouse. "Muggie Maggie " also by Beverly Cleary, is a great story about a little girl in 3rd grade who resists learning cursive.
