Here are some of the categories that I use or have seen (keep in mind that I teach 3rd Grade):animals
social studies
science
space
rainforest
human body
oceans
holidays
just for fun
character education
abc books
number books
color books
family books
AR books
math
bears
food books
reference books
nature books (like plants)
by authors (Like Mercer Mayer or Mike Thaler)
weather books
nursery rhymes **These are the ones that I can think of right now--the best thing to do is to just sit down and look at your books and start putting them in different stacks or crates. I hope this helps some! :~)
