For my sixth graders I use THE WHIPPING BOY. I believe the author is Sid Fleischman. In medieval times, whipping boys were used to punish the prince because it was illegal to punish the prince. Two characters are highwaymen which were the criminals of the time period. It is a short book with great illustrations. It is humorous at times. There is a great movie to go along with it but it is an adaptation of the book. Although it has great costumes and scenry from the time period. There are plenty of materials which go along with the book from companies such as Troll.
