Read Alouds
By JES

Clip to ScrapBook
Traci,
I am so lucky! I have my students in both 4th and again in 5th. In 4th grade Reader's Workshop my students form literature discussion groups based on their choice from among 4-6 books that I introduce. Then in
5th grade we move on up to an individualized Reader's Workshop. That means they can choose to read any book from our classroom's library, our school library, and/or the 4th and 5th grade colletions of literature sets. That means the only book I can guarentee that we have in common -- our anchor books -- are our read alouds. I read aloud chapter books and plan to read mostly historical
fiction aloud this year.

That brings me to my question for you. What can you share with me about the training your district has provided you related to reading aloud to your students? Is there a book you used that can be purchased? I would love to have an opportunity to get this kind of training. PLEASE let me know if you have ANY insight that could help me.

I have a list I've posted on this site about the books I've read and used. I will go copy it right now and post it for you tonight.
Thank you,
Elaine
