Just a suggestion to tie in with the movie Pearl Harbor that is on now - Sadako and the 1000 Paper Cranes. It is about a young girl who dies of leukemia after the atom bomb. Easy to read and very easy to tie in US history. I used it with 4th graders this year, so you might want to check the reading level, but it would be great for summer school activities.
