    Community/City/Town Theme

    I will be a first year teacher this year and I have chosen to do a communtiy/city/town theme since community is a huge part of our curriculum. I am asking for any ideas for my classroom or suggestions on where to go for cheap classroom materials.

    Here are some ideas I have so far.

    Library
    Park=reading corner with a park bench, pilliows, book bag tree, green rug, fence
    Museum=BB of current Sci. or S.S. topic, shelf with activities/books
    City Hall=teacher's desk, emergency procedures, classroom jobs, large group area with rocking chair and easel (classroom discussion, whole group instruction, "town meeting")
    News Station=current events (school, local, national, global), lunch, weather report, calendar
    Students' Desks=neighborhoods
    Post Office=cubbies, returned work and handouts, comment box, letter writing station
    Bank=students get paid for doing their jobs and turning in hw
    Store=students can use money to buy items
    Zoo=class pet

    I'm having trouble coming up with clever jobs for the classroom. Here's what I have so far:

    Banker
    Museum Curator
    Zoo Keeper
    Gardener
    Mail Carrier
    Neighborhood Watch
    Meteorologist
    Time Keeper

    Please, any help would be much appreciated!
