Late But Next Time By Michelle

Hi. I know it is probably too late to answer your request, but you can log this ideas under "Next Time".In four weeks, I suggest introducing the students to short stories and fables. About a year ago, I gave my students | a copy of "The Wife" by Ursula LeGuinn. Acutally, I am little fuzzy on the title, but it is a short short fantasy story in one of compliations. The story begins by talking about an undefined mother and the students learn that is it really an animal. The really fun of the story is trying to figure out what kind of animal. Nevertheless, story stories and fables encourage struggling readers. | | You should also focus on teaching skills like compare and contrast, parts to the whole, and decision making. Therefore, whether you are teaching students for four weeks or forty-four weeks, they benefit. Also, search the net (Yahoo!) for "project based learning". Use the quotations in your search and you shoud find useful ideas about constructing lessons around realistic situations. I implemented PBL this year and witnessed outstanding results. I hope this message offers some help. You did not indicate the grades you teach. I am a high school teacher, but my suggestions can be adapted to elementary and middle schools. Good luck!
