Carol,
I know that my district hires a lot of our subs. We (teachers) let the office know who is a great sub and who is not. The great subs names get passed along to personnel and get hired.

I do know that there are some districts that won't hire their subs for the very same reason. They feel that good subs are hard to find and they want to keep them around as long as they can.

It's a catch 22 if you ask me. But if are in the Grand Rapids area let me know and I can tell you the schools I know for a fact do NOT hire their subs so you can quit subbing there and move on to a school that does hire its subs.
