getting away from cross subject teaching
By RB

Clip to ScrapBook
My school district was notorious about 25 years ago for hiring just about everybody who went to college to be a teacher they placed them wherever someone might be needed. A business teacher taught special ed. almost 10 years
before finally getting back into her field of training. A High school trained teacher taught almost their entire career (over 20 years)in an elementary school. Talk about on the job training. I'm not saying a high school trained teacher can't teach elem., it just that you have to approach subjects differently from one grade level to another. Most school districts are trying to move
away from placing someone trained in one subject into a classroom teaching something else. Now our state has decided if you want to coach you have to get a degree in coaching and some colleges and universities are providing the classes. You can get it in addition to a teaching cert. or by itself. With as many talented, gifted, trained, and dedicated people out there with teaching cert. and as badly as teachers are needed (as is reported) everyone should find something that suits them.
