If you have any doubts about it, get the deal in writing complete with signatures. That makes it that much harder for them to go back on the deal later. Watch out for loopholes so they can't squirm out, though. And have copies made - at least one for the school, and at least one for you. It's harder for them to deny the deal or change the conditions if it's on hard copy with multiple copies floating around.
