GED

Clip to ScrapBook
Kim,

Do you know for a fact that most of these students will be ESL students or will the majority of your population be students who have dropped out of school for a variety of reasons (pregnancy, support family, poor grades,
etc.) Check that fact out first, because if it is the latter, it really isn't hard. These students want their GED's so they can get a decent job and most will be motivated to complete the work. Run out to your nearest bookstore and look over a GED prep book (in the testing section--SATs, GMATs, etc.) to see what the teaching entails. Much of it will encompass basic reading and writing
skills, basic civics, science skills, etc. Don't shortchange yourself--it could be a foot in the door somewhere, so like you said, don't burn bridges, go on the interview and see what it leads to. If they feel you are not qualified for this, they may have something else for you. Keep looking on the bright side--you are getting interviews and I am always optimistic that if you are getting interviews you will make an impression on someone somewhere---a few weeks into school, maternity leaves, medical leaves, long term sub positions open up, etc. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
